Membranous Rush is a clustered perennial herb, 15-50
cm tall, with slender, 1-3-leaved stem. Leaves are 5-15 cm x 1-2 mm,
linear, almost tubular to flattened, channelled, pointed. Flowering
heads at stem tops are simple, usually 8-20 flowered, whitish; lowest
bract equalling or exceeding the head, upto 2.5 cm long. Flowers are
6-7 mm long, nearly stalkless; tepals nearly equal, inner slightly
exceeding the outer, oblong-lanceshaped, subblunt. Stamens do not
protrude out, anthers about 1.5 mm long. Capsules are
ovoid-lanceshaped, 6-9 x 2.5-4 mm, brown to blackish-brown, beaked.
Membranous Rush is found in E. Afghanistan to W. Himalaya, at
altitudes of 3000-3700 m. Flowering: May-October.
